The Como by Design showhouse was a wonderful chance to reimagine a space in the historic Como House in South Yarra. As one of 24 designers involved, we embraced the opportunity to create a study that honored the home’s heritage while adding modern touches. Thousands visited over the three-day event, and the positive response was incredibly rewarding.
For the study, we envisioned how the matriarch of the house might use the space today. Using the existing marble fireplace, crystal chandelier, and grand bookcase, we painted the walls a deep teal to create a calm, reflective atmosphere. Bespoke details brought warmth and character: a custom-embroidered screen, a burl timber desk with walnut accents, and curved tub chairs softened the space. A custom rug with subtle Art Deco details tied it all together, blending timeless elegance with a modern twist.
