Como by Design Showhouse
The Como by Design interior showhouse was a unique and inspiring opportunity to reimagine a space within the iconic Como House in South Yarra. As one of 24 designers invited to participate in this temporary exhibition, we embraced the chance to breathe new life into a piece of history. Drawing on the home’s rich heritage, we created a study that seamlessly blended timeless elegance with fresh, modern touches, honoring the past while reinterpreting it for today. Over the three-day exhibition, thousands of people visited the house, and the response to how the space made people feel was incredibly positive. This project was a celebration of design, storytelling, and the beauty of transformation within a historic context.
For the Como by Design interior showhouse study, we reimagined how the matriarch of the house might use this small, elegant room today. Working with the existing marble fireplace, crystal chandelier, and grand bookcase, we introduced a deep teal hue to the walls, creating a serene and reflective atmosphere. Collaborating with local artisans, we brought in bespoke pieces that added warmth and personality: a custom screen featuring intricate embroidery, a burl timber desk with walnut details, and curved tub chairs to soften the room’s architectural lines. Completing the design, a custom rug with subtle Art Deco detailing tied the space together, blending timeless elegance with a contemporary sensibility.
